Palmerton graduate Brock Bollinger and the Misericordia University baseball team enjoyed a historic season this spring.
The Cougars made a magical postseason run that came to an end with a 13-7 loss to No. 12 Baldwin Wallace in the D-III College World Series earlier this month.
Misericordia hosted and won Regionals, and traveled to Marietta, Ohio, where the Cougars won Super Regionals (sweeping Marietta in two games) to punch their ticket to the NCAA D3 College World Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
The Cougars finished the season with a 40-15 mark to set a school record for wins in a season and were ranked No. 7 in the final D3 rankings.
In the loss to Baldwin Wallace, Bollinger singled to open the third inning, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Joe Comins.
Bollinger was named to the 2023 ALL-MAC Freedom Conference First Team once again this year, along with D3 ALL-Region Team and ABCA Rawlings ALL-Region Team, both third team honors.
He finished the season with a .370 batting average, 1.010 OPS, 50 runs scored, 15 doubles, four home runs, 56 RBIs, a .516 SLG%, a .494 OB% 28 walks and started 52 of the team’s 54 games played. He led the team in doubles, and was second in RBIs and walks.
Bollinger also reached his 100th-career hit, and was tied for the team lead in hits with 68.
The team rewrote the record books, finishing with 157 stolen bases, the most in program history and No. 1 in Division III. Bollinger was second on the team with 22 stolen bases.
Misericordia also had batters hit by a pitch 163 times, the most in Division III history and highest total in DI, DII and DIII this year. Bollinger was third on the team with 20 HBPs.
