Palmerton firefighters have been acknowledged for their dedication and efforts in serving the community.
Borough council recently honored members of the Palmerton Fire Company through a proclamation.
Three volunteer firefighters, Rob Sell, Gary Bonser and Brittany Stepp, each received leather helmets for becoming certified for the Firefighter 1 Level.
Borough fire Chief Jason Behler said they had to complete 188 hours, including sometimes nights and weekends, to attain their certification.
Behler said the firefighters learn the basics, including all the things needed to perform on the fire grounds safely.
He said each helmet cost over $1,000.
“It seemed like the leather helmet is a sought-after thing in the fire service,” Behler said. “The department had committed to make the purchase for anyone that becomes certified for the Fire 1 Level.”
Sell thanked everyone for their support over the last few years, and for giving the fire department the means and ability to do its job.
Bonser told council he intends to become an even better firefighter.
Afterward, council, along with members of the public in attendance, recognized the firefighters with a round of applause for their achievements.
