Carbon County sentencings
Carbon County Court Judge Joseph J. Matika recently accepted sentenced nine people who pleaded guilty to charges.
Erica Lee Lakatos, 43, Franklin Park, New Jersey, was charged by state police at Lehighton with possession of a controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; driving under the influence of a controlled substance, impaired ability, first offense; operating a vehicle without insurance; disregarding traffic lanes; careless driving, and reckless driving on July 7, 2018.
She pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge, and Judge Joseph J. Matika sentenced her to serve six months on probation; to pay court costs; a $50 monthly supervision fee; and a $100 LiveScan fee.
Stephen Ray Letsch, 56, Palm Bay, Florida, was charged by state police at Lehighton with possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of a small amount of marijuana; disregarding traffic lanes; failing to use his turn signals; and failing to obey traffic control devices on Sept. 10, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to the marijuana charge, for which Judge Matika imposed a $150 fine, and to pay a $100 LiveScan fee.
Justin Lucas, 32, Albrightsvlle, was charged by Kidder Township police with aggravated assault; simple assault; harassment; disorderly conduct; and resisting arrest on May 15, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to the resisting charge, and Judge Matika sentenced him to serve one year on probation; to pay court costs; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; pay a $100 LiveScan fee; and to render 50 hours of community service.
Dominic Tyle McLaughlin, 20, Palmerton, was charged by state police at Lehighton with possession of drug paraphernalia; speeding; operating a vehicle without insurance; having an obscured license plate; having an improper muffler; and possession of a small amount of marijuana on Oct. 29, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to the obscured license plate charge, and Judge Matika fined him $25 and ordered him to pay court costs.
McLaughlin also pleaded guilty to the marijuana charge. Judge Matika fined him $150.
Chrystie L. Pitman, 36, Wilkes-Barre, was charged by Kidder Township police with terroristic threats; simple assault; criminal trespass; and harassment on July 19, 2020.
She pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct, and Judge Matika sentenced her to serve one year on probation; ordered her to pay court costs; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; pay a $100 LiveScan fee; undergo a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluation; and to render 50 hours of community service.
Keith Allen White, 64, Allentown, was charged by state police at Fern Ridge with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, schedule 1 drug, first offense; driving under the influence of a controlled substance, impaired ability, first offense; having an obscured license plate; failing to use a safety belt; possession of marijuana; careless driving, and reckless driving on Jan. 31, 2022.
He pleaded guilty to the safety belt charge, and Judge Matika fined him $10; ordered him to pay court costs; and to pay a $100 LiveScan fee.
On the marijuana charge, White was fined $150; ordered him to pay court costs; and a $100 LiveScan fee.
The remaining charges were dropped.
Heather L. Belles, 53, Parryville, was charged by state police at Lehighton with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, impaired ability, second offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; disregarding traffic lanes; careless driving, reckless driving, and having an improper muffler on June 15, 2021.
She pleaded guilty to the paraphernalia charge, and Judge Matika sentenced her to serve one year on probation; to pay court costs; to pay a $100 LiveScan fee; pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; and obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Walter Roy Bevans, 47, Wilkes-Barre, was charged by state police at Hazleton with terroristic threats; simple assault; harassment; and criminal trespass on Jan. 8, 2016.
He pleaded guilty to the assault charge, and Judge Matika sentenced him to serve 16 days to one year in Carbon County Prison, with immediate parole; to submit a DNA sample and pay the $250 fee.
He also ordered him to pay a $50 monthly supervision fee; to pay court costs; obtain a mental health evaluation; have no contact with the victim; and render 25 hours of community service.
The remaining charges were dropped, and a bench warrant against Bevans was dissolved.
On the harassment charge, he was ordered him to pay court costs and serve eight to 16 days in jail, to be served concurrently to the assault charge sentence.
On the trespass charge, Judge Matika sentenced Bevans to the same punishment as the harassment charge sentence to be served at the same time.
Dakota Schoch, 25, McAdoo, was charged by Weatherly police with defiant trespass on posted property; disorderly conduct; and public drunkenness on Nov. 1, 2021. He pleaded guilty to public drunkenness, and was sentenced to serve 15 to 30 days in jail, to be served at the same time as a state prison sentence he’s serving; to pay court costs; $100 LiveScan fee; and a $50 monthly supervision fee.
