State police at Hazleton - crashes
State police at the Hazleton barracks reported on the following incidents:
• Karen C. Chehovich, 60, of Junedale, was cited for traffic code violations after she left her car illegally parked on Main Street in Banks Township, resulting in a two-vehicle crash.
Police said her 2011 Kia Soul was parked illegally in the right lane of traffic when it was struck by a 2018 Subaru Forester driven by Clara A. Preputnick, 83, of McAdoo, who had just completed a left-hand curve. Police said she applied the brakes, turning onto the oncoming left lane to avoid a collision with the Soul, but the vehicle flipped onto its roof, then striking the rear driver’s-side quarter panel of the Soul.
Preputnick sustained suspected minor injuries but refused a medical transport, police said.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
Chehovich was cited for failure to park a vehicle off the roadway, not activating hazard lamps when stopped and failure to obey the instructions of a traffic-control device, police said.
• Robert T. Pressler, 22, of Weatherly, sustained suspected minor injuries in a one-vehicle crash at 7:33 p.m. May 9 on Grist Mill Road in Packer Township. Police said he refused a medical transport after the incident.
Police said he was driving a 2023 Kia Forte eastbound when a deer entered the roadway. He swerved the vehicle to avoid striking the deer and the car traveled down an embankment, rolling over. It came to rest near a creek at the bottom of the embankment, police said.
The vehicle sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.
• Diego A. Lalama Jr., 18, of Freeland, sustained suspected minor injuries in a one-vehicle mishap at 3:53 p.m. May 12 on Kline Road in Banks Township.
Police said he was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue that went out of control and struck a guide rail on the south side of the roadway. The vehicle needed to be towed from the scene, police said.
