Dena C. Michelsen, 48, of Albrightsville, was charged by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle after a crash at 9:59 p.m. May 8 on Route 534 in Penn Forest Township. She was uninjured.

Police said she was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Equinox northbound when it traveled off the left side of the road and struck a utility pole and multiple boulders. The car had disabling damages and was towed from the scene.

Police said Michelsen told them a deer entered her path, causing her to swerve to avoid striking it. They also said the driver told them she was not authorized to drive the vehicle, which was confirmed by the owner.
