Palmerton nurse in stable condition after being struck by car

A Palmerton Hospital nurse was struck by a vehicle Monday night, while she was crossing a street just outside the medical center.

Borough police say they have no plans to cite the driver, who reportedly stopped at the scene and passed a sobriety test.The crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. Monday night on Second Street, Palmerton Police Chief Randolph Smith said.A pedestrian identified as 50-year-old Kimberly Fuss was crossing Second Street when she was struck by a vehicle that had just made a left turn onto Second from Lafayette Street.Fuss was initially taken to Palmerton Hospital, then transferred to Lehigh Valley Hospital at Cedar Crest. A hospital spokesman said Thursday afternoon that Fuss was in stable condition. He could not provide any additional information.Smith said that Fuss is employed as a nurse at Palmerton Hospital. According to her linkedin page, Fuss has worked at the hospital for the last 13 years.The driver of the vehicle, identified as 47-year-old Scott Strohl of Palmerton, said that he did not see Fuss crossing the street. Strohl was given a preliminary breathalyzer test at the scene and passed, Smith said. Based on that information, and the fact that Fuss was not in a marked cross walk, Smith said police have no plans to issue any citations in connection with the crash.
