Election results in Monroe, Northampton counties
Voter turnout was light in Monroe County with just 20.8% of registered voters casting a ballot.
The results of the primary election are as follows:
Supervisors
Chestnuthill Township supervisor, 6-year term, one seat: George Strunk came out ahead with 579 votes or 55.2% of the vote, Chuck Gould had 469 votes on the Republican ticket, which was 44.71% of the vote. There were 115 write-in votes on the Democratic ballot, because there were no candidates.
Chestnuthill supervisor, 4-year term, one seat: Deborah Modica won out with 52.48% or 518 votes over Roger W. Kutzler with 469 votes or 47.52% of the vote on the Republican ticket. There are no candidates on the Democratic ticket.
Chestnuthill auditor: Republican Joanne Davidson had 818 votes or 99.63% of the vote. There were no candidates listed on the Democrat side, but there were 33 write-in votes.
Eldred Township Supervisor, 6-year term, one seat: Scott C. Clark was the only candidate on the Republican ticket. Clark received 156 votes or 97.5% of the vote. There were no Democrats running, but there were 10 write-in votes.
Eldred supervisor, 2-year term, one seat: Gary A. Hoffman was on the Republican ticket and got 146 votes or 96.69% of the vote. No Democrats were on the ballot.
Eldred auditor: No candidates listed for either party. There were 8 write-ins on the Republican side and 1 Democrat write-in vote.
Polk Township Supervisor, 6-year: Michael Hurley was also the only candidate on the Republican ticket. Hurley received 462 votes or 98.51% of the vote. There were no candidates on the Democratic ticket, but there were 25 write-in votes.
Polk Township auditor: No candidates. There were 13 write-ins on the Republican side, and 39 votes on the Democrat side.
Ross Township supervisor, 6-year: Matthew Reeder was on the Democratic ticket. He received 282 votes or 99.3% of the vote. On the Republican ticket, David Shay had 261 votes or 99.62% of the votes.
Ross Township Auditor: Therese A. Doll was on the Democratic ticket. She received 293 votes or 99.32% of the vote There were no candidates on the Republican ticket, but 15 write-in votes.
Other races
Controller: Erik A. Diemer was on the Democratic ticket, and got 8,882 votes. Incumbent Marlo A. Merhige was on the Republican ticket, and received 6,885 votes.
Register Of Wills/Recorder Of Deeds: Kate Best was on the Democratic ticket and had 8,996 votes. Incumbent Josephine Ferro was on the Republican ticket, and got 7,033 votes.
Prothonotary and Clerk Of Courts: John C. Huddleston was on the Democratic ticket and received 8,692 votes. Incumbent George Warden was on the Republican ballot and had 7,059 votes.
Sheriff: Nick Cirranello was on the Democratic ticket and had 8,597 votes, with incumbent Ken Morris on the Republican ballot. Morris received 7,085 votes.
Northampton County
Walnutport had 200 voters come out for the election on Tuesday. There were 121 Democrats, 79 Republicans and two with party affiliation left blank.
Council, 4-year term: Voters could select three candidates. On the Democrat ticket, Michael Gasten had 94 votes, David Stonkovic had 91 votes, Harold C. Greene had 90 votes, and there were 4 write-in votes. On the Republican ticket, there was one write-in vote.
County Council District IV: Tom Giovanni was the only one running on the Republican ticket and had 66 votes. There were 2 write-in votes on the Democrat ticket.
County Controller: John Cusick had 68 votes on the Republican ticket. Tara Zrinski won over Nadeem Qayyum 78 to 36 votes on the Democrat ticket.
District attorney: Stephen Baratta beat out Terry Houck 63 to 50 votes on the Democrat ticket. No candidates were listed on the Republican tickets, but there were 7 write-in votes.
