Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents:
• Police charged John Muffley Jr., 42, of Lehighton, with harassment after he violated a Protection from Abuse order multiple times.
According to police, a woman secured a PFA against Muffley after he physically assaulted her in February. The woman reported in March that Muffley violated the order twice despite warnings from police.
On April 18, the woman told police that Muffley had sent her hundreds of messages between March 22 and April 16. Police said the messages contain pleading, begging and crying from Muffley, who claimed he loved her but later said he hated her and called her a liar and a fake.
• Willey Velazquez, 34, faces charges of possession of marijuana following a April 8 traffic stop by Tamaqua police.
Police said they were monitoring traffic just after 2 p.m. and saw a vehicle pass with tinted front windows. Officers stopped the vehicle and while speaking to the driver, Velazquez, they smelled a strong odor of unburnt marijuana. Velazquez told police he had two blunts and “some weed” in a fanny pack on the front passenger seat.
Police seized the marijuana and told Velazquez he would be charged.
• Tamaqua police charged Zaidyn Walker, 18, following a disturbance at a fast food restaurant on April 20.
Police were called to Burger King at 2:15 p.m. and found Walker in the parking lot. He told police that employees were being racist.
Through an investigation, police said they learned that Walker had been banned from the business after he caused a disturbance there in the past. Police told Walker that he was not allowed inside the restaurant, but Walker said he would continue to visit.
Police took Walker into custody and charged him with trespassing and disorderly conduct.
• A Tamaqua man faces a felony charge of retail theft after he was caught taking items from M & S Hardware in Tamaqua on April 17, borough police said.
Police said the store provided video of a man stealing sand paper and other items.
Through an investigation, it was learned that the man was Kerry Long, 50. Police said Long admitted to taking 15 sanding discs and a blue funnel from the store. The items were valued at $41.09.
Upon a criminal history search, police learned it is Long’s third arrest for retail theft, making the charge a third-degree felony.
