Mahoning Twp. supervisors to see pay raise

Mahoning Township supervisors will eventually see an increase in their pay.

Additionally, planning commission and zoning hearing board members will be compensated for the first time,

Supervisors on a 4-0 vote Wednesday approved a resolution authorizing compensation of the members of the zoning hearing board establishing the rate at $50 per meeting. Supervisor Brian Reeser was absent.

The board also approved an ordinance amending a section pertaining to composition, appointment, and compensation of the code of the township for the planning commission.

And the board approved an ordinance amending a section of the meeting compensation of the code of the township for the board of supervisors.

Board solicitor Tom Nanovic said the increase for supervisors won’t start until the next election.

Last month, the board agreed to advertise the compensation ordinance.

In March, the board voted 4-0 to increase supervisors’ pay to $100, as well as to pay planning commission and zoning hearing board members $50 per meeting attended.

Board Chairman Robert Slaw, who serves on the township’s planning commission, said at that time he’s a huge proponent of seeing members of the group be compensated.

Previously, supervisors were paid $50 a meeting, while planning commission and zoning hearing board members were not compensated.
