Yozwiak announces candidacy for Pleasant Valley board
Donna Yozwiak has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Pleasant Valley School Board.
She brings more than 45 years of total educational experience to the office as an AP/English/journalism teacher at Pleasant Valley High School for 20 years.
She next assisted students as their school counselor for 18 years, specializing in career/technical and special education areas. She holds a Master’s Degree in education in secondary counseling from Marywood University, Master’s Degree in secondary education from East Stroudsburg University, Bachelor of Arts Degrees in English and history from Wilkes University.
Yozwiak’s plan is to continue to address the key issues facing the district today: to keep taxes low by advocating that legislators approve fair funding formulas, by negotiating fair and responsible employee and renovation contracts, by promoting academic excellence with increased credit requirements for graduation and maintaining scholarship opportunities, by enhancing career/technical education programs, by promoting continued innovations in the Pleasant Valley Cyber Academy and by requiring that hiring of personnel rests on experience and following all board policies.
Yozwiak is a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Gilbert, and is past president of the Pleasant Valley Board of Education. She has served on the MCTI Joint Operating Committee, the PV Policy Committee, the PV Education Committee, the PV Support and Professional Staff Negotiating Committees, PV Athletic Committee, a PV Finance Committee and the PSBA Platform Committee.
She currently serves on the MCTI Educational Foundation and is Chairperson of the MCTI Authority Board.
Yozwiak has been a resident of the Pleasant Valley School District since 1977. With her husband, Larry, they have raised three children who are each Pleasant Valley graduates: Dr. Nathan Yozwiak, Newton, MA; Andrea Yozwiak, Saylorsburg; and Ali Yozwiak Chupa, Bangor, PA.
Yozwiak said, “Children must not be told what to think but be taught how to think.”
