State police at the Pocono barracks said bystanders held down a man who was driving erratically until they arrived at the scene on the Northeast Extension in Penn Forest Township at 4:08 p.m. April 21.
Police said they responded to a report of the driver of a Ford Ranger going south on the turnpike swerving across both lanes.
Witnesses said the truck struck concrete barrier and guard rail before stopping at mile marker 81.3 where the bystanders removed him from the vehicle and held him until police arrived.
Police said the driver was taken by Lehighton EMS personnel to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Carbon Campus, Franklin Township, to be evaluated for minor injuries.
They said the driver refused to submit to a blood test.
