SH Scout builds buddy bench, earns Eagle rank

A highly-decorated member of Clamtown Troop 755, Boy Scouts of America, advanced to scouting’s highest honor last Saturday during a Eagle Scout Court of Honor program held at the Hilltop Community Center in his hometown.

Connor Rehnert, son of Chris and Jennifer (Boyle) Rehnert of Summit Hill, was the guest of honor before family, friends and public officials, receiving scouting’s highest honor from Damon Krall, scoutmaster, under the charge of “honor, loyalty, courage and service.”

Rehnert is a sophomore at Marian Catholic High School, Hometown, where he is class president, a student ambassador and member of the Colts’ football and track and field teams.

He is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Parish of the Panther Valley, Summit Hill, where he is an alter server.

For his Eagle project, Connor built a buddy bench at St. Jerome’s Regional School, Hometown, which will be used for prospective and new students there to bond with current students and create friendships.

The new Eagle Scout’s road through scouting is nothing short of commendable considering he earned 68 merit badges, a lot of them though the COVID years.

Awarded his Eagle status in December, he previously advanced through the ranks as a Scout and Tenderfoot, both in 2018, Second Class, First Class and Star Scout ranks, all in 2019, and becoming a Life Scout in 2020.

His troop leadership positions included senior patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, patrol leader and scribe.

Connor also earned several awards during his scouting career, including: Eagle Palms: 3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze, Recruiter, Kayaking, BSA, Firem’n Chit and Totin’ Chip. He will receive the Order of the Arrow in May.

Also participating in the court ceremony were Blake Tharp, committee chairman, and Dave Krall, district leader, while Carbon County Commissioner Rocky Ahner and Summit Hill Mayor Jeffrey Szczecina made presentations to the scout. His high school football coach at Marian, Stan Dakosty, spoke about Connor’s dedication to the school, his classes and the football program.

Rehnert’s merit badges include: Pulp and Paper, Basketry, Leatherwork, First Aid, Salesmanship, Railroading, Emergency Preparedness, Citizenship in the World, Bird Study, Inspect Study, Environmental Science, Reptile and Amphibian Study, Electricity, Weather, Aviation, Personal Fitness, Wood Carving, Robotics, Welding, Kayaking, Nature, Swimming, Archaeology, Programming, Personal Management, Medicine, Engineering, Traffic Safety, American Business, Entrepreneurship, Mining.
