Palmerton picked up victories in softball and tennis on Friday.

BASEBALL

Panther Valley-

Abinton Heights

Bradley and Stephen Hood both had big games as Panther Valley topped Abington Heights, 7-2, in a non-league game played at PNC Field in Moosic - the home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders minor league baseball team.

Bradley Hood started on the mound for the unbeaten Panthers (12-0) and went four-and-a-third innings to pick up the win, allowing one run on four hits and striking out six. Stephen Hood tossed the final two-and-two-thirds innings to pick up the save, allowing two hits and striking out five. The brothers allowed one run each.

Both Hoods also contributed offensively with Bradley getting a hit and two RBIs and Stephen adding two hits and two RBIs. Chase Weaver chipped in two hits and scored a run Panther Valley, while Mike Pascoe walked twice and scored two runs.

Pleasant Vy.-Easton

Easton used a seven-run sixth inning to turn a deficit into a 15-10 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Bears were their own worst enemy, committing seven errors which led to nine unearned runs.

Ben Mostosky had four hits and three RBIs for PV, who outhit the Rovers by an 11-8 margin. Nate Loch finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs and four RBIs, while Michael Konopke chipped in with two hits and a run.

For Easton, Brendan Larkin and Khamryn Singto both ended with two hits and two RBIs, with Josh Perry connecting for a home run.

The loss dropped the Bears to 8-7, while Easton is now 5-7.

Williams Valley-

Jim Thorpe

In a wild non-league contest, Williams Valley outscored Jim Thorpe, 25-16.

The two teams combined for 41 runs, 31 hits, 19 walks and 14 errors. Ten pitchers took the mound and 365 pitches were thrown.

Logan Williard finished with three hits, three runs and three RBIs for the Vikings, who took control with a 12-run fourth inning. Brayden Shadle added two hits and knocked in four runs, while Bryant Hoover contributed three hits, three runs and two RBIs.

For the Olympians, who actually outhit their opponent, Chip Baldassano and Cole Lazorick both had four hits. Baldassano scored three runs and had three RBIs, while Lazorick crossed home three times. Ian Henkels added two hits, two runs and two RBIs, with Rich Strack chipping in a pair of hits and two runs. Garrett Lienhard ended with a hit and three RBIs.

Thorpe slipped to 2-10 overall, while Williams Valley improved to 6-6.

SOFTBALL

Saucon Vy.-Lehighton

Abbie Miller pitched a five-inning no-hitter to lead Lehighton to a 10-0 non-league victory over Saucon Valley.

Miller didn’t allow any walks and struck out eight batters to help the Indians improve to 6-7.

Mallory Valentine had two hits, one a double, and knocked in three runs for the winners, who broke open a 1-0 contest with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Valentine also scored a pair of runs. Mia Snyder added a pair of doubles, two runs and two RBIs, while Maggie Pagotto contributed a hit, a run and an RBI.

Palmerton-PM West

Cadee Munjone went 4-for-4 with three doubles and five RBIs to lead Palmerton to an 18-0 non-league victory over Pocono Mountain West.

Megan Matsko added a home run and four RBIs for the Blue Bombers, who had 12 hits in the game.

Hailey Barry picked up the pitching victory.

Jim Thorpe-Sch. Haven

Kate Donne pitched a five-hitter and struck out eight to lead Schuylkill Haven to a 5-1 non-league victory over Jim Thorpe.

Donne also doubled, walked twice, knocked in a run and scored twice. Choley Homan added a pair of doubles and a run.

The Olympians’ Amanda Goodchild pitched well in defeat, allowing just five hits and two earned runs in six innings of work.

Megan Rohrman had two hits and scored a run for Thorpe, which fell to 1-10.

The Hurricanes upped their mark to 9-5.

TENNIS

Palmerton-Lehighton

Palmerton edged Lehighton, 3-2, in the continuation of a match that was suspended by rain on April 6.

The Bombers swept the singles matches as Justin Sebelin, Riley Fallon and Tyler Hager all posted victories. Fallon’s 7-6 (8-6), 5-7, 10-7 win at No. 2 singles turned out to be the difference in the match after Lehighton swept doubles play.
