Popular Lehighton micro distillery closes doors
An in-demand micro distillery in Lehighton that specializes in single-batch spirits has shut its doors for good.
Insurrection Distillery LLC, at 201 N. Main Lane, ceased operations after nearly four years in business.
The business was opened by Rod Walck and the late Anthony Serafino in the fall of 2019.
Walck posted the announcement on the business’ Facebook page Thursday morning.
“This is a very hard decision to make but unfortunately has to be done,” Walck wrote. “After suffering a stroke, I need to discontinue operations at the distillery effective immediately. We do hope to offer some bottle sales during next month and allow folks to use any gift cards they have. I will post our intentions in a few weeks.”
Loyal followers responded in mass to the post, which as of early Friday morning had amassed over 650 likes and 200-plus comments.
“So sorry to hear this Rod,” Timothy Tkach of Lehighton commented. “Our prayers are with you and your family for a speedy and full recovery. Take care.”
Lynn Shupp of Palmerton remarked, “Sorry to hear of your health issue and you absolutely have to take care of that 1st. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Wishing you the best and thanks for offering our area a great place to make memories throughout the years. Best wishes!”
Located across from Dunbar Bottling Co., the structure was built in 1865 and originally housed Lehigh Stove and Manufacturing Company.
It featured micro single batch grains to glass distillates, along with craft-infused beers and wines.
They also made their own bourbon, vodka, rum, moonshine and rye whiskey.
“This certainly was not what we were hoping for, but this is a serious event and needs my attention,” Walck wrote. “Thanks to all of you who visited us during the past four years.”
