Local roundup: Results from April 19

Stephen Hood and Cody Orsulak combined to toss a no-hitter in unbeaten Panther Valley’s win over Minersville on Wednesday.

The Pleasant Valley baseball team also got a stellar pitching performance from Nate Mostosky in a win, while the Tamaqua baseball team was victorious as well.

BASEBALL

Panther Valley-Minersville

Stephen Hood and Cody Orsulak combined on a five-inning no-hitter in unbeaten Panther Valley’s 10-0 win over Minersville.

Hood, who threw three innings and struck out four, also had two hits, including a double, and a pair of RBIs, as Orsulak closed out the game over the final two innings and struck out one. Hayden Goida and Chase Weaver each had two hits with an RBI and a run scored for the Panthers (11-0), while Brody Breiner added two hits and a pair of RBIs.

Minersville slipped to 5-6 overall with the loss.

Pleasant Valley-PM West

Nate Mostosky pitched a one-hitter and Jack Smale knocked in five runs to lead Pleasant Valley to an 11-0 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference win over Pocono Mountain West.

Mostosky struck out five, and Smale had a homer among his three hits for the Bears (8-6). Nathan Loch added two hits as Pleasant Valley erupted for a five-run seventh.

Pocono Mountain East fell to 5-9 with the loss.

Pottsville-Tamaqua

Cooper Ansbach had three hits and Tamaqua posted a 5-1 Schuylkill League win over Pottsville.

Ansbach finished with an RBI and a run scored for the Blue Raiders (6-4), who also got a pair of hits and two RBIs from Cian McLaughlin. Mason Ligenza, who started on the mound and allowed five hits in six innings, added two hits and Lucas Milot delivered a solo homer. Milot struck out the side in order in the seventh to seal the win.

Kieran Houston doubled, while Luke Schane added a hit and an RBI for the Tide (0-11).

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Garrett Brandt threw a seven-hit shutout to lead Pine Grove to a 7-0 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Carson Lengle had two hits and three RBIs. Brandon Unger and Quinn Brommer also had two hits for the Cardinals (7-2).

Jim Thorpe, which had hits from seven different players, suffered its ninth loss of the season (2-9).

North Schuylkill exploded for 14 runs in the final two innings en route to an 18-8 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton in six innings.

Joey Cuthie homered and had four RBIs, and Hunter Rogers and Peyton Groody each smacked a homer, drove in three runs and finished with three hits for the Spartans (4-6), who pounded out 20 hits.

Austin Rarick had three hits and an RBI, and Austin Greene had two hits for the Tribe (8-5), who dropped their second straight.

Marian-Tri-Valley

Tri-Valley stayed unbeaten with a 6-1 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Jake Tietsworth held the Colts to five hits and only surrendered a run in the fifth inning for the Bulldogs (9-0, 7-0 SL). Tietsworth struck out seven and walked one. Braxton Schwartz had two doubles in the win.

Isaac Fererra scored on an RBI-single by Chase Petrilyak for the Colts (5-7, 2-5). Eric Hinkle added a double.

SOFTBALL

Jim Thorpe-Pine Grove

Callee Leffler hit two home runs and Pine Grove rolled to a 16-4 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

Leffler, the Cardinals’ (9-4) leadoff hitter, added a double, three RBIs and three runs scored. Hannah Aungst (three RBIs, run scored) and Addison Zimmerman (two RBIs, three runs scored) each doubled twice in the win, while Madison Shiffer tripled among her two hits and finished with an RBI and two runs scored. Sunshine Krill also doubled and had three RBIs.

Tara McLean doubled and had two hits with an RBI for the Olympians (1-9). Allie Skrimcovsky (two RBIs) and Hannah Zacharias (RBI, run scored) also had a pair of hits, while Melina Schwartz tripled and scored a run.

Panther Valley-Minersville

Minersville rolled to a 15-4 victory over visiting Panther Valley.

Kaycee Raczka led the Battlin’ Miners (6-5), as she finished with two singles, doubles and two RBIs. Emily Hart added a single, double and three RBIs.

Kyla McQuillen paced the Panthers (5-7) with two singles and three RBIs, while Lucy Greco added two singles. Mikayla Yuricheck added a triple.

Weatherly-Williams Valley

Williams Valley shutout Weatherly, 13-0.

Quin Smeltz fired a three-hitter with 11 strikeouts and had two hits for the Vikings (6-5). Sage Smeltz drove in three runs, and Ella Kobularik, Sophia Mione, added two hits apiece for the Vikings.

Weatherly, which committed seven errors, fell to 6-4.

Morgan Dinger finished with three singles, three runs scored and an RBI for the Spartans (8-3, 7-1 SL), while Johannah Taylor also added three hits, including a double, two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Makenna Snyder had two singles for the Indians (5-7, 3-5), while Maggie Pagotto also recorded a hit.
