The last of six dogs abandoned earlier this month along Penn Forest Trail in Jim Thorpe have been found.
Carbon County Animal Shelter manager Tom Connors said they trapped the last two pups, one on April 11, and the other on April 14.
“We had volunteers checking the trap throughout the day,” Connors said. “We have (them) back at the shelter safe; (they) look relatively healthy and in good shape.”
Connors said there have been more than 50 calls to adopt the dogs.
“We’re happy that we were able to get them,” he said. “We appreciate everybody’s support.”
Connors said they believe three of the brown females were Belgian Malinois, while the other three dogs were German shepherds.
“We have good homes lined up for all of them already,” he said. “They should be adopted relatively soon (after vet visits).”
Connors said the shelter initially received a call earlier this month from the Bethlehem Water Authority on Penn Forest Trail.
He said they had trail cameras out, people searching in groups, and on bicycles riding on the trails to find the last two.
Connors said at that time he believes the pups are about the same age and came from the same person.
He said the pups at the shelter are fond of Pedigree and canned food treats, and that any donations to help the pups would be appreciated.
