Local Roundup: Results from April 13

Tamaqua received strong pitching efforts to gain wins over Jim Thorpe in both baseball and softball on Thursday.

Paige Bumbulsky tossed a shortened perfect game to lead the softball team, while Mason Ligenza was solid on the mound to pace the baseball squad.

Panther Valley’s Steven Hood also turned in an outstanding pitching effort to keep the Panthers undefeated.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley earned wins in baseball and girls lacrosse.

BASEBALL

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Mason Ligenza starred on the mound and at the plate to help lead Tamaqua to a 7-3 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Ligenza earned the win, allowing just one hit and no runs over four innings. He walked four and struck out five. At the plate, he finished 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs.

The Blue Raiders, who scored three runs in both the third and fourth innings, also received two hits and a run from Cian McLaughlin.

Ian Henkels finished with two hits, one a triple, and an RBI for the Olympians.

Tamaqua is now 5-2 overall and 3-2 in the league. Thorpe dropped to 2-8 and 1-4.

Stephen Hood pitched a one-hit shutout to lead Panther Valley to a 10-0 Schuylkill League victory over Williams Valley.

Hood struck out eight and didn’t walk anyone in his five-inning effort.

Cody Orsulak paced the Panthers offensively with two hits - one a double - and three RBIs. PV, which registered its third shutout of the season, also received two hits and two runs from Tyler Black.

Chase Weaver chipped in with a pair of walks and two runs scored.

The Panthers improved to 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the league. The Vikings fell to 3-5 and 2-3.

Pleasant Valley-ES South

Pleasant Valley used a big fourth inning to gain a 6-4 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over East Stroudsburg South.

The Bears plated all six of their runs in the fourth to win their fifth straight game and lift their record to 7-4 overall.

Nate Loch had two hits, one a triple, and knocked in two runs for PV. Michael Konopke added a pair of hits and two stolen bases, while Jack Smale slugged a solo homer. The Bears also received a hit and two RBIs from Maverick Walsh.

Nate Mostosky went the distance on the mound, allowing just two earned runs. He walked one and struck out seven.

For the Cavaliers, now 3-8, Liam Huffman had two hits and two RBIs.

Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven

Conlan Buletza pitched a three-inning no-hitter to lead Schuylkill Haven to a 15-0 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Hurricanes received two hits and four RBIs from both Mitch Zimmerman and Aiden Clauser.

Jack James was the only Wrecker to reach base, working Buletza for a walk.

Haven improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league, while Weatherly slipped to 2-7 and 1-4.

Marian-Minersville

Logan Hutsko’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Minersville an 11-10 Schuylkill League walk-off win over Marian.

Hutsko finished with two hits and knocked in four runs. It also ended a contest in which the Miners rallied from deficits of 6-1 and 9-6.

Connor Beck added two extra-base hits (double, triple) and scored three runs, including the game-winner.

For the Colts, Michael Gelatko went 3-for-3, drilled a two-run homer and scored three runs. Cory Nolasco contributed three hits - one a double - and three runs, while Brian Hinkle, Chase Petrilyak and Lachlan Segedy all collected two hits.

The loss dropped Marian to 4-5 overall and 2-3 in the league. Minersville upped its mark to 4-4 and 2-3.

SOFTBALL

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua’s Paige Bumbulsky pitched a four-inning perfect game to lead the Blue Raiders to a 17-0 Schuylkill League victory over Jim Thorpe.

Bumbulsky retired all 12 batters she faced, including 11 by strikeout. She also collected two hits - one a homer - and knocked in three runs.

Tamaqua hit three homers in the contest, as Hailey Williams and Leah Crowley also went deep. Williams finished with three hits and six RBIs, while Crowley had two hits and knocked in a pair. Kolbe Robb added a hit, three stolen bases and three runs. Megan Linkhorst chipped in with a hit, two runs and two RBIs.

The Raiders are now 3-8 overall and 1-5 in the league. The Olympians fell to 1-7 and 0-6.

Williams Valley scored five runs in three different innings to gain a 17-2 Schuylkill League victory over Panther Valley.

Ella Kobulak had two hits, one a home run, for the Vikings. Sage Smeltz added two doubles and two RBIs, while Ally Underkoffler added a pair of hits and knocked in two runs.

PV’s highlight came from Mikayla Yuricheck, who blasted a two-run homer in the third inning.

Williams Valley evened its overall record at 4-4 and moved to 2-3 in the league. The Panthers are now 3-6 and 1-4.

Blue Mountain remained undefeated in Schuylkill League play after posting a 14-4 victory over Lehighton.

Emily Walasavage paced the Eagles, now 8-1 overall and 6-0 in the league, with three hits, two runs and two RBIs.

For the Indians, Madyson Bergstahl had a hit and knocked in two runs. Amy Dwojewski added a hit, a run and an RBI, while Addison Chavanic chipped in with a hit and an RBI.

The loss dropped Lehighton to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Marian-Minersville

Minersville shut out Marian 6-0 in Schuylkill League action to hand the Fillies their first loss of the season.

Kaycee Reckza pitched a one-hitter for the Miners, walking three while striking out 12. Reckza allowed just a second-inning single to Emma Grabosky.

Grace Sterner finished with a single, double and triple for Minersville, which upped its overall record to 4-4 and 3-2 in the league.

For the Fillies, Morgan Kelly allowed six hits and two walks while striking out 10.

Marian dropped to 7-1 and 5-1.

Stroudsburg-Pleasant Vy.

Stroudsburg used a 13-run sixth inning to turn a close game into an easy win as the Mounties registered a 19-5 decision over Pleasant Valley.

Dorothy Elko paced the winners, finishing 5-for-5 with four RBIs. Teammate Mandy Gizzo also went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, while Melissa Safin added three hits and knocked in three runs.

For the Bears, Danica Getz collected two hits, one a double. Hailey Krock chipped in with a hit and a run.

Stroudsburg improved to 4-5 overall, while PV fell to 5-6.

Weatherly-Schuylkill Haven

Schuylkill Haven won its sixth straight game with an 8-1 Schuylkill League victory over Weatherly.

The Hurricanes (6-4; 3-2) erupted for seven runs in the second inning. That was more than enough support for pitcher Kate Donne, who allowed just three hits and struck out 11.

Weatherly’s Madisyn vonFrisch suffered the defeat, but finished with 15 strikeouts.

Weatherly dropped to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in the league.

BOYS LACROSSE

Liberty-Northwestern

The Sosnovik brothers helped Northwestern roll to a 15-5 victory over Liberty.

Stone Sosnovik scored five goals and added an assist, while Austin Sosnovik finished with four goals and four helpers.

The Tigers, now 5-3, also received four goals and two assists from Blaine Snyder.

Others contributing to the win included Cade Christopher (goal, three assists), Braxton Lakatosh (goal, assist) and Devon Hildebrand (assist).

Tiger keeper Bailen Smargiassi finished with seven saves.

GIRLS LACROSSE

ACC-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley remained undefeated after cruising to a 20-4 victory over Allentown Central Catholic.

Devon Bush scored seven goals and added three assists, while Rylee Rath finished with six goals and three helpers.

The Bears also received three goals and an assist from Olivia Iandoli, with Riley Green contributing a pair of goals. Other tallies came from Emily Butler and Madison Fava.

PV keeper Abygail Borger made three saves.

The win lifts the Bears to 8-0.

BOYS TENNIS

Palmerton-Bangor

Bangor posted a narrow 3-2 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

The Bombers received singles wins from Justin Sebelin at No. 1 and from Tyler Hager at No. 3.

Palmerton dropped to 4-6.
