Local Roundup: Results from April 12

Northern Lehigh outlasted Pen Argyl in a game that featured five home runs between the two teams on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Northwestern and Palmerton softball teams also secured wins, as did the Blue Bomber tennis squad.

Meanwhile, the Pleasant Valley boys and girls each recorded victories in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference track and field action.

BASEBALL

Pen Argyl-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh out-slugged Pen Argyl for a 22-16 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

Brayden Tocci and Jackson VanNorman both delivered home runs for the Bulldogs. VanNorman connected for a two-run home run in the third inning, while Tocci had the blast of the day with a grand slam in the fourth inning.

Bradley Rismiller had a three-run home run for the Green Knights, while Gavin Cunningham added a two-run home run and Kristoffer Kessler recorded a solo shot.

Tocci had the hot bat for the Bulldogs (2-9 overall; 2-7 CL), adding an RBI-single in the fifth and sixth innings. Nick Buskirk (three singles, two runs scored) and Jack Tosh (two doubles, a single, four runs scored, four RBIs) also recorded three hits in the win.

Ryan Badua added four singles and two runs scored for the Green Knights (5-4; 4-4).

Saucon Valley needed just five innings en route to a 12-2 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

Liam Buck sparked the Panthers (6-1; 6-1), as he recorded two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Jake Albert – the Panthers’ cleanup hitter – added two singles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Watson Church, Robert Croneberger, Chase Moyer, Aidan Freeman and Austin Eisenhard all had hits for the Tigers (5-6 overall; 4-5 CL).

Wilson-Palmerton

Wilson escaped with a 3-2 Colonial League victory over Palmerton.

Noah Wallaesa (RBI-double) and Gunner Scheetz (fielder’s choice RBI) helped the Warriors (6-3, 5-3 CL) secure an early 2-0 lead.

Daniel Lucykanish, who was hit by a pitch, and Trey Sterling, who singled, both reached on an error in the bottom of the third inning for the Bombers (6-2, 4-3). Cole Serfass started the rally with a single that ended up in a throwing error and allowed the Bombers to score two runs. Sterling finished with a single, double and a run scored.

Briar Breckon’s fielder’s choice RBI, which scored Sheetz, in the top of the sixth inning snapped the 2-2 tie and put Wilson in front.

SOFTBALL

Saucon Valley-Northwestern

Northwestern rolled to a 12-3 Colonial League win over visiting Saucon Valley.

Cleanup hitter Marissa Christman led the way with two singles, a double, two runs scored and two RBIs for the Tigers (9-1, 7-1 CL). Rylee McGinley added three singles, and scored three runs and had an RBI.

Isabelle Akelaitis added a double, while Paige Neumoyer recorded a triple. Neumoyer earned the win in the circle, tossing a five-hitter, which included seven strikeouts with no walks and no earned runs.

Ryan Gall finished with two singles and a run scored for the Panthers (3-5, 2-5).

Wilson-Palmerton

Carly Gaffney tossed another gem to lead Palmerton to a 7-0 Colonial League win over Wilson.

After throwing a perfect game Monday, Gaffney fired 14 strikeouts and allowed one hit in the shutout to help the Bombers move to 6-4 overall and 5-3 in the league.

Gaffney also helped herself with her bat, finishing with two singles and an RBI. Carly Munjone added a single and two RBIs.

Olivia Werkheiser recorded the Warriors’ lone hit off the Bombers’ ace.

Pen Argyl-Northern Lehigh

Pen Argyl picked up a 7-1 Colonial League victory over Northern Lehigh.

Grace Weaver led the way for the Green Knights (5-1; 5-1), finishing with three singles, a run scored and three RBIs. Jillian Bradley (two singles) and Katie Knecht (single, double, three runs scored, RBI) each added multiple hits.

The Bulldogs took an early 1-0 lead after an inning of play, but the Green Knights slowed the hosts down and stole the momentum with a run in the top of the second and three in the top of the third to go ahead.

Cadence Peters paced the Bulldogs (6-3 overall; 5-3 CL) with a double and an RBI. Kaitlyn Stock and Skyelar Horack both added extra base hits with a double. Jordyn Hemingway accounted for the Bulldogs’ lone run, and added a walk and a single.

BOYS TENNIS

Palmerton-Notre Dame GP

A sweep in singles play helped Palmerton secure a 3-2 Colonial League win over Notre Dame of Green Pond.

Justin Sebelin, Riley Fallon and Tyler Hager all posted 6-0, 6-0 wins in singles action for the Bombers.

Palmerton moves to 4-5 overall (3-4 CL), while Notre Dame of Green Pond slips to 0-8 (0-7).

Eliana Szulborski and Mia Pulliam each scored four goals apiece as Nazareth posted a 15-7 win over Northwestern.

Pulliam also had an assist for the Blue Eagles (3-5), while Riley Kennett added three goals and an assist.

Ava Collins scored three goals for the Tigers (4-3).

Dieruff-Pleasant Valley

Pleasant Valley swept Dieruff in Eastern Pennsylvania Conference action.

The Bears posted a 105-43 win in the girls meet, and recorded a 78-68 victory in the boys competition.

Danielle Boland (800, 1600), Mattison Hyland (300H, long jump), Reese Ruggiero (pole vault, triple jump) and Nora Jones (discus, javelin) all had multiple wins in the girls meet for Pleasant Valley.

Frankie Morales won the 800 and 1600 for the Bears in the boys meet.

Tamaqua and Pine Grove split in Schuylkill League action.

The visiting Blue Raiders posted a 90-59 win on the boys’ side, while the Cardinals recorded a 90-60 victory in the girls’ meet.

Martin Griffin placed first in the 300 hurdles, as well as the long and triple jumps for the Blue Raider girls. Anthony Marchetti won both the 1600 and 3200 for the Tamaqua boys.

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

Marian posted a sweep of Schuylkill Haven in Schuylkill League track action on Tuesday.

The Colts won all three relay races to help pull out a 74-67 victory. The Fillies, meanwhile, took first in five of the six field events en route to an 81-60 win.

Albin Petschauer won two individual events (800, 1600) and took part in two of the relay wins as the Marian boys improve to 2-2 in the league. The Colts also received a pair of firsts from Jose Ramirez Lara (high jump, triple jump), and one each from Josian Hernandez (200), Jacob Tom (400), Michael Silliman (long jump) and Jesse Rodino (discus).

In the girls meet, Fatikha Tiktova took three events to aid the Fillies, who are 4-0 in the league. Tiktova captured the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Other wins for Marian came from Caitlyn Kovatch (100), Alizabeth Pikitus (200), Emma Ashfield (3200), Olivia Thomas (shot put) and Carly Minchhoff (javelin).
