Northwestern senior attains rank of Eagle Scout

Andrew Diehl, a member of Boy Scout Troop 150 of Orefield, recently received the rank of Eagle Scout.

His Court of Honor ceremony was held on March 25 at the New Tripoli Fire Company.

State Rep. Ryan Mackenzie was the guest speaker and also presented Diehl with a citation at the court of honor.

His Scout Leaders Shawn Furman and Brian Wynn spoke of the significance of the Eagle badge, and presented Andrew and his parents with the Eagle Scout pins.

Andrew, who is known to his friends and family as “AJ,” started his scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 61 of Breinigsville in 2011.

After earning his Arrow of Light Award in 2016, he moved up to Boy Scout Troop 150. During his time with Troop 150, he held numerous leadership positions including den chief, scribe, instructor, troop guide, assistant senior patrol leader and senior patrol leader.

Throughout his time with Troop 150, Andrew was able to earn 30 merit badges. He always looked forward to camping and especially the summer camps with the Troop. He was also able to attend the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in 2021.

Andrew’s Eagle Scout project was a landscaping project at the Weisenberg Township Building. The scope of the project included coming up with an overall plan and raising funds to complete that plan.

With the help of fellow Scouts, his friends and family members, he was able to prep an area to complete the project, place new plants along the side of the building, install edging, landscape paper and a new river rock bed.

A new “welcome” bench was installed along with new wooden fencing along the front of the property. An existing monument was cleaned and ground cover was installed around it. A solar light was also installed at the top of the existing flagpole to illuminate the American Flag.

Andrew is a senior at Northwestern Lehigh High School, where he is an honors student. He is also a member of the school debate team.

He is currently competing on the track and field team for the school. Diehl plans to attend the University of Delaware in the fall of 2023. He lives in Lowhill Township with his parents Dave and Christy Diehl along with his sister Alexandra.

At his court of honor, Andrew thanked his Scout leaders, parents and grandparents for their guidance throughout his Scouting career and also his friends and fellow Scouts for their help completing his project.
