Moss running for Schuylkill County commissioner

Republican Mary Jo Moss has announced her candidacy for Schuylkill County commissioner. A West Brunswick Township resident, Moss pledges to bring strong and fair leadership to Schuylkill County.

While serving as program director for the Young Entrepreneurs Academy of the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce, Moss said she recruited students in every school district, Schuylkill Technology Center, Scouts BSA, 4-H, and the County Fair to provide hands-on experience for starting a business. Moss said that training programs such as YEA! help build the workforce Schuylkill County needs for economic growth.

Born and raised in Wayne Township and Lake Wynonah, Mary Jo Moss explained that she is qualified and experienced to be our next county commissioner.

She earned a degree in electrical engineering from Lehigh University and a fellowship in Educational Policy and Leadership in Harrisburg.

She worked at AT&T/Lucent as a senior product engineer and was a supervisor of manufacturing and testing. She served for more than 20 years on various boards including the STC, Schuylkill County IU29, and Blue Mountain School board of directors. Moss was an advocate for agriculture, science, technology and math (AgSTEM) at Blue Mountain.

In addition, she served on the boards of Schuylkill Women in Crisis, PTO, the Walk In Art Center, and Victims Witness Advisory Board. Moss is currently chairwoman of the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board and a board member of Hamburg EMS.

Moss said she has a consistent record of fighting for taxpayers and is especially concerned about senior citizens and veterans.

“I realize that we face significant challenges with property tax reassessment, inflation, wages, and blight,” said Moss. “I am committed to improving the quality of life in Schuylkill County through economic development and by protecting land and natural resources.”

“Schuylkill County is a hidden gem where family values and a strong work-ethic have always been our strengths,” said Mary Jo Moss. “As Commissioner I will work hard to serve this great county so we can move forward together.”
