Elevator project begins in Carbon County

Scheduled work in the Carbon County Administration Building is moving forward, but repairs from a water leak are still being worked out.

Last week the commissioners said that the elevator project, which was expected to take place earlier this year, has finally begun and hope to have it back up and running next week.

The elevator has been down since last October when a part failed. Delays on obtaining the parts caused the building to be without an elevator since.

In addition, visitors to the building will notice scaffolding and a maze-like entrance as part of the ongoing roof and HVAC replacement project. The $1.3 million project is expected to wrap up in June.

But repairs to several offices from the water leak last month are still being finalized with the insurance adjuster.

Commissioner Rocky Ahner said the county was hoping to receive the estimates for the repairs by the end of this week and then determine how the repairs would be made.

He said about repairing one floor at a time and moving offices up to the meeting rooms or working remotely if feasible to allow for work to take place during business hours.

The board also previously said that evening work or weekend work would not be out of the question since the county needs to operate.

“We should be able to manage this pretty well,” Ahner said.
