Mount Airy donates $80K in goods to nonprofits
Mount Airy Casino Resort donated nearly $80,000 in new merchandise to area nonprofits, the company has announced.
Monroe County’s Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Women’s Resource Center, Habitat for Humanity, Developmental Education Services and Maternal and Family Health Services received hundreds of pieces of luggage, kitchenware, gardening tools, first aid supplies and more.
“Mount Airy Casino Resort is proud to support local organizations committed to lifting up and propelling forward those who need it most,” said Lisa DeNaples, Mount Airy owner and managing trustee. “Our social responsibility efforts are designed to help us maintain strong relationships with a wide range of agencies that address our region’s needs.”
In the last five years, the Mount Airy Foundation has donated more than $1 million in cash grants, in-kind donations and community event sponsorships to charitable organizations that provide crucial services to the residents of Northeast Pennsylvania and the Poconos.
Last week’s giveaway was the first phase of Mount Airy’s merchandise giveaway, with another slated for mid-April that will include another dozen regional nonprofit and social service agencies.
“The merchandise we selected will be utilized in our shelter for women and children who are moving in or are transitioning out,” said Lauren Peterson, executive director of the Women’s Resource Center of Monroe County. “The bakeware sets, coffee makers, luggage and storage containers are especially helpful when they’re able to move into their own place.”
Mount Airy provided an inventory list that included more than 1,000 different items that allowed organizations to select what merchandise - and how many pieces - best suited their client’s and agency’s needs.
“We’re so fortunate to have these organizations in our community and we’re happy to provide them with some assistance so they can continue to make a difference every day to so many,” said Ben Koff, Mount Airy COO and General Manager. “Serving as active community members is a key component of our company culture.”
