Wanted McAdoo man nabbed in W. Penn Twp.

West Penn Township police have caught a McAdoo man wanted on warrants in Berks and Schuylkill counties.

Robert Matthew Wills, 41, was charged with flight to avoid apprehension and giving false identification to a police officer.

Here’s how police caught him:

On Feb. 24, while on patrol, police received an alert on the license plate reader for a suspended and expired registration license plate.

The plate appeared on a 2008 Subaru Forester. During the traffic stop, both the driver and the front seat passenger kept insisting on driving the vehicle away, stating they were on their way to a doctor’s appointment.

The driver of the vehicle provided her driver’s license. The vehicle was not registered in her name.

Police then asked the passenger for his identification, and he stated he did not have it with him. He provided a name and date of birth, but seemed to hesitate when asked for his date of birth, as if he could not remember.

No computer record was found matching the name and date of birth he provided. Police then checked the driver’s license of the driver through the computer.

Upon checking her license, an NCIC warrant appeared for a Robert M. Wills, date of birth Aug. 11, 1991.

This warrant was attached to the female driver’s license number. Upon a computer check of the name Robert M. Wills, police found a driver’s license record with a photo that matched the passenger in the vehicle. The address on the driver’s license for Robert M. Wills was also the same as the current driver’s address.

The warrants were found on Wills from Schuylkill County Domestic Relations and a bench warrant for failure to appear for felony charges, and a Luzerne County bench warrant for failure to appear.

Wills was taken into custody on the warrants, and his identity was further identified by a mobile ID fingerprint reader.

After receiving the fingerprint records, Wills stated that he just didn’t want to get arrested in front of his children. Police charged him with flight to avoid apprehension and false identification to a police officer.

The vehicle was impounded, and the driver and owner were cited with numerous traffic violations.
