Schuylkill youth summit scheduled March 30

The Schuylkill County Commissioners and Schuylkill County’s VISION will convene the Eighth Schuylkill County Youth Summit from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30 at Penn State Schuylkill.

The summit will gather youth from all the county high schools to engage them in making the county a better place for them to live, work, play, and raise their families.

This year’s Youth Summit will be the first reconvening of the schools since February 2020. Last fall high school students were encouraged to complete a Youth Summit survey. The survey had previously been distributed in 2013 and 2016, and its data assists with planning and implementation of Youth Summit.

On March 30, students, staff, and participating organizations will receive an overview of the survey results, and address key findings that include recreation, inclusion, infrastructure, community involvement.

In the afternoon students will work in groups to familiarize themselves with county resources, address scenarios, ask questions, and provide feedback.

The day’s events and feedback will assist VISION, the commissioners, students, and community leaders in planning for the 2023/2024 school year’s Youth Summit and subsequent school projects.

“We are excited to work with the students our future leaders, once again, by collaborating and sharing ideas in working to make Schuylkill County home for future generations to be successful,” said Commissioner Gary J. Hess.

“We are excited to not only bring back Youth Summit, after a several year break, we look forward to using the survey results and student involvement/feedback to steer the Summit in a direction that best serves the county, schools and their communities in the upcoming years,” said Mandy Fitzpatrick, Schuylkill County’s VISION Executive Director and Youth Summit Facilitator.

The Youth Summit is supported by the county commissioners and community leaders, who serve as an advisory group. To learn more, visit www.skookyouth.com or info@schuylkillvision.com or 570- 622-6097.
