• Announced there are two board member openings as well as an alternate opening on the borough zoning hearing board. There are also two openings on the recreation commission and one opening on the planning commission. Any resident interested in serving on any of these boards is asked to send a letter of interest to the borough.

• Councilwoman Abbie Guardiani voiced her concerns over the senior housing building at 90 E. Catawissa St. She said that she had been through the building and noted some building deficiencies that the owner should address.

It was noted the three fire companies also had concerns about the building and the safety of residents living in the building in the event of an emergency.

• Approved hiring Michael Gruber as a borough worker.

• Approved installing a stop sign for northbound traffic at the intersection of Rhume and Allen streets. There were three at the intersection and council believes it should be a four-way stop.

• Guardiani gave an update on the blighted properties she has been following for the last several months and noted that there is some progress, including a few homes that have been sold and are currently being renovated.

• Approved the resignation of John and Kim Cooper from the recreation commission; as well as the reappointment of Dawn Jacobs to that commission.

• Plans are in the works for the borough to participate in National Night Out in August. Further details will be released closer to the event.

• The borough is partnering with Angelo Greek for a memorial bench project. The project is Greek’s Eagle Scout project; and the borough hopes to have at least 20 benches memorialized by families of residents. More details will be released soon.

• Approved a $20 a month stipend for five borough workers who use their personal cellphones for borough business.
