Social media threat at Pleasant Valley ‘not credible'

A social media threat involving Pleasant Valley Middle School has been deemed “not credible,” district administration said Friday morning.

In an e-mail to staff, Superintendent Dr. James Konrad said the district was made aware of the threat through a Safe2Say tip around 6:50 a.m. on Friday.

“The school police and Pa. State Police immediately investigated the threat and worked together this morning in order to ensure the safety of our students who were already en route to the school,” Konrad said. “At this time, it has been determined that this is not a credible threat, however; we will continue to be vigilant as the investigation moves forward to identify the source of the social media post.”

According to social media reports, the threat involved the potential of a gun being brought to school.

State police remained on scene at the middle school late Friday morning. Parents at some of Pleasant Valley’s other schools reported buses were running slightly behind schedule Friday morning.

Konrad said the safety of Pleasant Valley students continues to be the number one priority.

“Classes will continue today without further interruption,” he said.

He credited the middle school staff, district police and central office staff “for their quick response, professionalism, and support this morning.”
