State police at Bethlehem

State police at Bethlehem reported on the following incidents:

• Police are investigating an attempted theft by deception incident where someone opened a credit card in the name of a Slatington woman and her husband.

Police said they were called at 12:05 a.m. Jan. 15 to Woodbury Drive in Washington Township where a 60-year-old woman told them someone opened an Air France Bank of America card in her and her husband’s names with a credit limit of $20,000.

Police said no charges were made on the card and it was canceled.

• A Slatington woman has been scammed out of a large amount of cash.

State police at Bethlehem said a 66-year-old woman from Skyline Drive, Washington Township, reported on Feb. 3 that on Jan. 31 she received a letter and check that she believed was from Publisher’s Clearing House. The victim contacted Publisher’s Clearing House where an unknown woman instructed the victim to cash the check and send two envelopes containing $2,300 each, via overnight UPS mail, to an address in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The total loss the victim suffered was $4,740, troopers said. The investigation is continuing.

• Jaime Centeno, 21, of Allentown, is facing charges of driving under the influence after a traffic stop conducted by state police at the Bethlehem barracks at 8:27 p.m. Jan. 30.

It happened when police stopped a 2022 Hyundai at the intersection of Route 100 and Hollenbach Road in Lowhill Township.

• Police are investigating a forcible rape incident that was reported to them at 1:09 p.m. Feb. 1.

Police said the victim is a 53-year-old woman from Laurys Station who reported between April and May of 2022 a sexual assault occurred between a suspect and her.

• Police are investigating a burglary on Mauser Road in North Whitehall Township reported to them at 7:01 a.m. Jan. 16. A 56-year-old Walnutport man told police someone broke a window in the residence to gain access to a vacant apartment at the above location and took multiple tools of unknown value.
