State police at Fern Ridge
State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following cases:
• Mark Borger, 64, of Saylorsburg, is facing a firearms violation charge. Troopers said in July 2021 he attempted to purchase a Heritage Roughridge pistol at Dunkelberger’s Sports Outfitter, located off Route 209, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.
After filling out the paperwork required an employee of the store ran a background check through the state instant check system. It was learned Borger was not legally permitted to make such a purchase due to a prior criminal record. Following an in-depth investigation, charges were approved by the county district attorney against Borger, troopers said.
• Matthew Kovalsky, 35, of Effort, was charged with simple harassment after an incident at 9:04 p.m. Feb. 10 at the intersection of Starlight Drive and Birch Hollow Estates in Chestnuthill Township.
Police said they were told by a 34-year-old Effort woman that Kovalsky grabbed her and shook her in a violent manner during a verbal altercation over laundry.
Police said the victim sustained a minor injury to her collarbone.
• A 40-year-old woman from Bangor was charged with possession of a controlled substance after a moving violation traffic stop made by officers at 6:29 p.m. Feb. 5.
Police stopped the 2015 Dodge Ram truck at the intersection of Silver Valley Road and Deer Lane in Chestnuthill Township. They discovered she was driving under the influence and in possession of drug equipment.
• A traffic stop made at 9:53 p.m. Feb. 7 resulted in a 46-year-old Albrightsville man being arrested.
Police said they stopped a 2009 Dodge at the intersection of Navajo Trail and Route 534 in Penn Forest Township for a moving violation, after which they discovered the man was driving under the influence.
Police said a search warrant executed by troopers resulted in finding methamphetamine and other drug equipment in his possession, resulting in drug possession charges.
• A traffic stop at 1:30 a.m. Feb. 10 at the intersection of Route 209 and Birch Lane in Chestnuthill Township resulted in a 20-year-old Wilkes-Barre man being arrested.
Police said they stopped the 2003 Kia Sorento and found the driver to be driving under the influence. A consent search of the vehicle yielded a small amount of marijuana and methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.
