Northern Lehigh school board member resigns

For the second time in several months, Northern Lehigh School Board has a vacant seat.

On a 7-0 vote Monday, the school board accepted the resignation of Michelle Heckman, effective Feb. 6.

Heckman submitted her resignation in an email received Feb. 6, and said it was “with sadness” that she submitted her resignation from the board.

“Serving this board has been a privilege,” Heckman said. “However, my professional and personnel commitments are preventing me from giving this position the attention it deserves.”

“I’m proud of the board, our superintendent and the district for its professionalism during the pandemic and its commitment to serving our staff and students each and every day.”

Board President Mathias Green suggested that the board advertise the vacancy.

Green said the board would have a meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 27 to look to appoint a new member.

He asked that anyone interested in applying do so to the district by 4 p.m. Feb. 23, and should be given to the secretary of the superintendent.

In September, the board on a 6-2 vote appointed retired district co-director of business affairs Rhonda Frantz to fill a vacant seat on the board.

Frantz was one of four candidates listed on the agenda to be interviewed.

The other candidates were Lauren Ganser, Justin Jachowicz and Natalie Snyder.

Before that vote, Green said Ganser dropped out.

In August, the school board on a 7-0 vote accepted the resignation of Robert Keegan Jr., effective Aug. 15.

In his resignation letter, Keegan said he resigned so that he could spend more time with his family.

Keegan had been a board member since 2014.

Frantz will serve until December. If she wants to continue serving, she must run in the municipal election.
