Carbon County schools update by students

CCTI

CCTI will be having CTE Olympics this month. Today will be door decorating. Feb. 21-24 CTE Spirit week.
Themes are as follows: dress like your favorite teacher on Tuesday; Wednesday, red, white and blue; Thursday, color wars, and Friday will be decade day.
Throughout the month of February there will be karaoke and trivia in both lunches. On Feb. 28 will be home school pride: wear home school colors.
On Feb. 14 the students will be participating in the CTE Olympics – “Arts and Human Services.”
CCTI Health Medical will be hosting the second Blood Drive for the 2022-2023 school year on Tuesday. Hours are 8 to 1 p.m. by appointment. The Health Medical students organize two to three blood drives each school year with Miller Keystone Blood Bank. This gives CCTI students an opportunity to earn red cords that can be worn at graduation.
Students selected for Student of the Marking Period (marking period 2) will be recognized on Wednesday and will be treated to a breakfast in the Harvest Café. These students are chosen by a faculty or staff member.
Presidents Day – CCTI not be in session from Thursday through Monday, Feb. 20. Classes will resume on Feb. 21, 2023, which will be a “B Day.”
Lehighton

The FBLA bingo is at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance Company this Saturday.
Doors open at 11 and bingo will begin at noon. Food will be sold by the Ambulance Company, as well as a 50/50 and bake sale to help offset the cost of our state competition.
The wrestling and basketball teams held their senior nights last week to commemorate their last home matches of the season.
Aevidum held a successful blood drive, ran by Miller-Keystone on Feb. 8.
Another blood drive for the public is in the works.
The senior class met to discuss scholarships, fundraising, and prom. Scholarship packets were distributed, so if you missed it, see Mrs. Costenbader in the guidance office.
The prom will be held at the Hotel Bethlehem on May 5. The theme will be Cinco de Mayo, with the title “Fiesta like there’s no mañana” to celebrate the holiday.

Winter sports are wrapping up their seasons, spring sport conditioning is underway. Best of luck to our spring sports athletes.
National Honor Society members are working hard to get their hours, helping out with breakfast with loved ones for our elementary school students.
Panther Valley

Panther Valley Athletics: Maddison Maynard, a junior player on the girls basketball team, scored her 1,000th career point on Feb. 1 against Mahanoy, finishing the game with 34 points.
The girls basketball regular season has ended, but they will be continuing into districts along with the boys basketball team.
On Feb. 7, Panther Valley’s two seniors Aislynn Gallaghar and Madison Henthrone celebrated their senior night as the boys took on the Lehighton Indians, clutching a close game with a 61-59 victory.
School news: Eight members of the National Honor Society will be attending “Safety Town” at the Elementary School, participating in a demonstration that spreads awareness of the everyday dangers of life and teaches children how to confront and act in these situations.
To anyone hungry for doughnuts and looking to support the senior class, a Krispy Kreme fundraiser is being held to lower the cost of the senior trip to the Pocono Valley.
Due to this year’s unusual winter weather patterns, this year’s annual snow tubing trip has been postponed as a result of a lack of snow.
On Valentine’s Day, the PV college and career adviser will be hosting an event for student help on scholarships and financial aid completion, with cookie decorating and hot chocolate provided to relieve some stress during the college application .season.
