A half-million dollars in federal pandemic is flowing into the Schuylkill Haven High Rise Apartments for plumbing projects.
Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday agreed to spend $500,000 of American Rescue Plan Act money to replace the entire plumbing system, including water mains, hot and cold water distribution lines, isolation valves, waste line, existing toilets, sink fixtures, water meters, and pressure reducing valves.
The affordable housing building is home to 110 people.
The county in 2021 received $27 million in ARPA funds.
As of January, there was about $9,091,108 in uncommitted funds left.
Recent expenditures included $4.7 million to offset a shortfall in the 2023 budget. Another $149,291 went to a 911 tower project and $156,737.33 for cyber security upgrades.
The county previously committed $3,725,006 for improvements to the 911 system towers and communication systems; $500,000 to the Schuylkill Municipal Authority for water projects in the north central area of the county, and $128,518 to reimburse medical providers who helped county employees who battled the virus.
