Inmate charged with assault
A Carbon County inmate has been charged with assaulting another inmate in the shower area of the Carbon County Correctional Facility.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Detective Jack Soberick of the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office in the case against Christian Kipp:
Soberick was advised on Jan. 4 by the Carbon County Correctional Facility warden, James Youngkin, of an incident that occurred around 7 p.m. Dec. 27.
Youngkin listed that the defendant, Kipp, 36, an inmate, had physically assaulted the victim, another inmate, in the shower area of the Sex Offender Unit.
Correctional officers and supervisors conducted a review of the security footage from the Special Housing Unit and found that at about 7 p.m., Kipp can be seen using the telephone near the entrance to the unit shower area.
Shortly thereafter, the victim is seen walking toward the entrance to the shower area, he stops near Kipp and it appears the two have a brief conversation and the victim walks away.
Kipp is seen almost immediately dropping the phone and darting after the victim.
Other inmates are then seen going in and out of that area; Kipp exits the shower area and it isn’t until about 7:30 that the victim is seen exiting.
During an interview with Soberick on Jan. 5, the victim said that he was going into the shower in the unit and was stopped by Kipp, who told the victim to “not take a long shower.”
The victim stated that he replied to Kipp that he also takes a long shower, so he will do the same.
The victim said as he entered the shower, Kipp had run in behind him and then struck him at least twice in the side/back of his head.
The victim said that as soon as the shower water hit him, he passed out and was rendered aid by other inmates.
Kipp faces charges of simple assault; assault by prisoner; and harassment.
Kipp is incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 monetary bail, and scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Feb. 15 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
