Jim Thorpe graduate Austin Williams is enjoying a strong senior season with the Delaware Valley wrestling team.
At the recent Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championship tournament, Williams won his first bout with a first period pin, but dropped the next contest to fifth-seed Caleb Burkhart of Wilkes. Williams cruised to the consolation semis with a first period fall and a 12-4 major decision. In the semis, the fourth-seeded Williams met third-seed Michael Dooley of Stevens. Williams suffered a hard fought, narrow, 3-1 decision to finish in sixth place.
Stevens Institute of Technology won its third-straight team title with 152 points. Alvernia was runner-up with 138 points, and Messiah finished third with 97.5 points. The Aggies finished fifth with 92.5 team points, one spot behind Wilkes.
Williams picked up wins at the season-opening Ithaca Invite as well as the Baldwin Wallace Invitational, and was fifth at the Racich Rumble.
He also recently helped Delaware Valley roll to a 24-9 victory over visiting Ursinus College on a night when the Aggies celebrated their four seniors on senior night, with Williams posting an 8-2 decision to secure the victory.
At Jim Thorpe, Williams placed fourth at districts as a junior and qualified for regionals. He also placed sixth at districts as a senior, a season he also hit the 30-win plateau.
