A Carbon County driver has been cited following a crash along the northeast extension of the turnpike in Lehigh County.

State police at the Pocono barracks said Christina M. Smith, 39, of Lehighton, was driving a 2018 Dodge Challenger, in the right southbound lane at 10:06 a.m. on Dec. 23 in North Whitehall Township.

Troopers noted during the time of the crash there was heavy traffic, along with steady rainfall causing hazardous driving conditions.

Troopers said Smith lost control of her vehicle on the wet road surface which then crashed into the center concrete barrier head-on.

Upon impact, the vehicle bounced off the barrier, spun around before coming to final rest facing north in the left southbound lane.

Smith and her passenger, an 11-year-old girl from Lehighton, suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment. The Dodge sustained heavy front end damage and was towed.

Smith was cited for traffic violations, including driving while license is suspended.
