The Lehighton American Legion Post 314 continues its long tradition of serving good food and supporting the local community by dishing up dinners to the public every Wednesday through Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
Raine Hartung does the cooking and has been working at the Legion for about a year. Her family used to own Miller’s Bar Vel in Summit Hill. Shannon Stephen of Lehighton is the waitress, taking orders and delivering the food to the tables.
The regular menu features hamburgers and cheeseburgers, cheese steaks, plus other sandwiches. The Legion also serves platters like spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken fingers, and more.
Each week, they offer special menu items. Recent specials included halupki with mashed potatoes and a salad or a chicken BLT club. The Legion posts the weekly specials in the Times News and on its Facebook page on Wednesdays.
“Some of the money we raise goes into our building fund, for repairs to the building, the heating and air conditioning,” said bartender Missy Hyska. “Next we will be fixing up the parking lot.”
The Legion also supports the local community through scholarships.
“We try to give to the community where we can,” Hyska said.
The Legion’s Banquet Hall is also available to rent for local groups and special events. Call 610-377-0511 for information.
