Summit Hill’s fire chief and two assistant chiefs retired from leadership positions last night and were replaced by three younger firefighters during the department’s annual election of officers.

Louis Mitchalk will step down as head of the Diligence Fire Company No. 1 at the end of the year and will be succeeded by Michael Beshock.

Assistant chiefs Joseph Mitchalk and William Newton are also stepping down. Named to replace them are Shawn Hoben and Audrin Miller.

Elected as drivers for 1995 were John Stoudt Jr., chief engineer; and Newton and the Mitchalks, who will be assistant engineers.
