NJ man charged with assaulting officer

A New Jersey man who police say assaulted a Pocono Mountain Regional Police officer Dec. 10 was sent to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville, on a second degree felony charge.

Dakota Ditmars, 22, of Ewing, is charged with aggravated assault on a police officer after the incident at 7:56 p.m. at a home along Nadine Boulevard, Pocono Summit, Coolbaugh Township.

He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Phillip Riley and jailed in lieu of $25,000 secured bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. Jan. 4 before Magisterial District Judge Danielle Travagline.

Police said they were summoned to the residence to assist with a case of a reported “magic mushroom” overdose and upon arrival were advised Ditmars was inside the home and “out of control.”

Police said as officers proceeded to make entry to the residence, Ditmars attempted to push past and leave, at which time he struck an officer in the head. The blow, police said, caused the officer to fall and strike his head on the floor.

Police said other officers tried to control Ditmars, who fought with them until a taser deployment and physical altercation resulted in him being detained.

Police said he was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his condition, and upon being released was transported to the jail and arraigned.
