Franklin Township police log

The following investigations are being conducted by the Franklin Township Police Department:

• A 47-year-old Lehighton man was charged with operating while his driving privileges were under DUI suspension at the intersection of Main Road and Canal Street, for an incident that occurred on Nov. 17 Due to previous convictions, the male was summoned for misdemeanor driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked and the originating traffic offense.

• An investigation was initiated on Nov. 22 after information was received from Carbon County Children and Youth Services that a 2-year-old child had arrived at St. Luke’s Carbon Campus with injuries suspected to be abuse. This investigation is ongoing.

• A 42-year-old Lehighton woman will be cited for retail theft for an incident that occurred at a convenience store on Interchange Road on Nov. 25. An item valued at $7.41 was removed from the store.

• A township resident reported on Nov. 28 to being the victim of ransomware and computer trespass. The victim suffered a $500 loss. This investigation is ongoing.

• A township resident reported on Nov. 29 to being the victim of fraud. The suspect posed as a federal law enforcement official and coerced the victim to send them $1,750 to avoid alleged criminal charges. This investigation is ongoing.

• A township business reported on Dec. 1 that it identified checks it had attempted to send by mail had been stolen and forged. A total loss of $657.62 was suffered. Suspects have been identified and charges are pending the result of a larger criminal investigation.

• A 51-year-old Effort man will be cited for retail theft for an incident on Dec. 3 at a convenience store on Interchange Road. An item valued at $8.47 was removed from the store.

Township police did not release the names of the individuals.
