Police to increase DUI checkpoints in Schuylkill

The Pennsylvania State Police has announced the establishment of increased Driving Under the Influence patrols on Schuylkill County roadways from now through Dec. 28.

The increased patrols will include conducting sobriety checkpoints, a traffic safety process wherein troopers systematically stop vehicles at selected locations to briefly observe drivers for articulable facts and/or behaviors normally associated with alcohol or drug-impaired drivers.

The goal of the checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious crashes, and to reduce the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania’s highways.

The state police is committed to maintaining a safe environment for the motoring public, with the checkpoint intended to achieve this goal.

The results of the increased patrols and sobriety checkpoints will be released after the reporting period has concluded.
