Franklin Township police log

The following investigations are being conducted by the Franklin Township Police Department:

• A 22-year-old Lehighton man was charged with multiple counts of terroristic threats, harassment and cyber harassment of a child, for an incident that occurred on Oct. 16, 2022. Township residents reported receiving threats of violence and lewd and lascivious messages and pictures via electronic communications. He was remanded to the Carbon County Correctional Facility.

• A 36-year-old Columbia County man was charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property and subsequent summary offenses for an incident that occurred at 3:22 p.m. Oct. 26.

A hit-and-run motor vehicle accident occurred in the area of 85 Interchange Road. The offending vehicle left the roadway, striking traffic control devices and the victim’s vehicle, at which point the offending vehicle attempted to flee the area.

• A 63-year-old Lackawanna County man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence for an incident that occurred at 5:39 p.m. Oct. 29. An erratic driver call was received pertaining to a vehicle traveling on Interchange Road (Route 209). The vehicle was stopped, and charges are pending the result of toxicology testing.

• A 33-year-old Lehighton man was charged with disorderly conduct for an incident that occurred at 3:42 p.m. Nov. 3. A report of a road rage incident was received as occurring on Pohopoco Drive.

• On Nov. 11, township residents reported being the victim of a ransomware computer crime. The victims were defrauded for almost $15,000. The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
