Monroe County man charged with assaulting neighbors

An Effort man has been charged after a fight with his neighbors in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at Fern Ridge responded to a home in the 1100 block of Bayberry Road at 8:35 p.m. Oct. 14 for a report of a disturbance between neighbors.

A woman told police that her neighbor, Brian Farrell, 38, assaulted her, her boyfriend, and her juvenile son at her residence in the 1900 block of Valley Road, Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Her boyfriend said Farrell knocked on the front door, walked in and went toward the boyfriend with two closed fists.

They began arguing. Farrell swung at the boyfriend but missed and struck the woman, who was trying to break up the fight. She had cuts and her lip was bleeding.

Farrell hit the boyfriend multiple times and placed him in a choke hold on the floor.

Her son was on the floor and she said Farrell stepped on the child’s chest/shoulder area, causing a mark on his right side.

The boyfriend said he struck Farrell two times in self-defense.

He had swelling and redness to his right collar bone, which was previously injured because of an unrelated incident.

Farrell ran from the house.

The boyfriend and the boy were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Pocono for further treatment.

Police interviewed Farrell at his residence. He had a cut to the right side of his face and a bloody nose. He told police the woman’s boyfriend was making sexual comments to his wife.

Farrell said he was then “jumped” by the couple and an unknown man, but denied striking anyone and stepping on the boy.

Farrell is charged with four counts of simple assault, three counts of harassment, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, and one count of burglary.

He is in the Monroe County Prison in lieu of $20,000 monetary bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing Friday before District Judge Colleen Mancuso of Brodheadsville.
