Weissport officer promoted to chief

John H. Urbanski, the officer in charge, has officially been promoted to police chief in Weissport.

Borough Council approved Urbanski’s promotion at Monday’s council meeting.

Urbanski has been working with the council to improve police presence in the borough and modernize the department.

The council also hired a new zoning officer, with Brent Green replacing Barry Isett & Associates. Council members have expressed dissatisfaction with Barry Isett & Associates and decided to make the switch.

Dr. Jake Boyer made a proposal to hold a parade in May 2023 for all armed forces. The plans are in the early stages. Boyer will give more information as plans progress.

Ruth Bush told council that state Rep. Doyle Heffley suggested a re-enactment encampment sometime next fall.

The re-enactment group from Schuylkill County is interested in representing the unit that built and garrisoned Fort Allen, which was located in present-day Weissport. The program would have them coordinate with a period French group, “Regiment de la Reine.”

They are looking to have the encampment on a Sunday in September.
