Lehighton honoring veterans Sunday with songs, stories
The Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance, in partnership with the Lehighton Legion Post 314 and Lehighton United Veterans Organization, will present “Songs & Stories: Honoring our Veterans” on Sunday at Lehighton Legion Post 314.
The program will expand on the Heritage Alliance’s “Songs & Stories in the Mausoleum: Honoring Our Veterans” program that was held at the Lehighton Cemetery Mausoleum in September 2021.
It will feature stories about Lehighton’s role in the country’s military service and local veterans personal stories told by Kathy Long and veterans.
Traditional and popular music will be presented by Dave Matsinko on guitar, trumpet and more.
There will also be historical military-related items on display.
If you are a veteran who would like to have your personal story included in this program, contact Kathy Long at 570-386-4542 or email lehightonheritage@gmail.com.
Veterans from all military branches and all past and recent conflicts are welcome to share their stories either in their own words, or anonymously. For those who prefer not to speak in public or prefer to remain anonymous, you will have the opportunity to tell your story privately before the event, have it written down, and then have it retold by Long during the event.
The Lehighton Legion Post 314 is at 314 Veterans Ave. (Third & Bridge streets), Lehighton.
There will be one show, indoors, at 2 p.m.
Light refreshments and beverages will be available.
Parking is free and the building is handicap accessible.
For those who cannot attend in-person, the program will be recorded and shared via the Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance’s YouTube and Facebook page after the event.
Admission is by cash or check donation to be split between the three sponsoring organizations. Checks can be made to “Lehighton Area Heritage Alliance.” Donations can also be accepted online via PayPal at lehightonheritage.org.
