A local band will be making music for the victims of a fire that tore through their apartment building on Oct. 29.
Hatter will hold a benefit concert from 6-10 p.m. Friday at the Tamaqua Elks Lodge, 201 W. Broad St.
The band starts at 7 p.m., and there will be food, drinks and a baked goods sale. In addition, there will be raffles and 50/50s.
All ages are welcome until 9 p.m., but afterward, only those 18 and up will be admitted.
Hatter vocalist and guitarist George Parr said the band was scheduled to play its “Hatterween” show at the Elks on the evening of the fire that displaced 13 residents of 117 W. Broad St. and damaged several adjoining buildings.
“We were at the Elks, which is a few buildings away when the fire was happening” on the 100 block of West Broad Street, Parr said.
Band members saw firefighters, paramedics and smoke pouring from the rooftops and decided to cancel the show.
“It was heartbreaking to watch and I wanted to put something together to help,” Parr said.
He said the gathering might help folks heal from the destruction of the fire.
“Togetherness is how we overcome and community is what it takes,” he said.
