Two state representatives, including one who won a head-to-head battle against another incumbent in May in the aftermath of redistricting, are unopposed in the Tuesday’s election.
Rep. Ryan Mackenzie, a Republican, has no opposition in the 187th District balloting.
He defeated Rep. Gary Day in the primary after the redistricting committee put the two legislators in the same district. Mackenzie won 5,612 to 3,539.
In the 183rd District, Rep. Zach Mako is also unopposed.
A Pennsylvania representative’s base salary is $95,432.
187th District
Under the new House district maps, residents of the 134th District that Mackenzie represents were relocated to four newly-drawn districts, which include the 130th, 132nd, 134th, and 187th. Mackenzie is among those residents who are changing districts, as his home is in the new 187th District.
The district includes parts of Lehigh County, consisting of the townships of Heidelberg, Lower Macungie, Lynn, Upper Macungie (part, districts 3, 7 and 8), Washington and Weisenberg and the boroughs of Alburtis and Macungie, and represents 66,296 residents.
Day, who will leave the legislature later this year, has been a member of the House since 2009. He serves on the House Professional Licensure and Aging & Older Adult Services committees.
183rd District
Mako, a member of the state House since 2017, is running unopposed.
The district includes part of Lehigh County, consisting of the townships of Lowhill and North Whitehall and the Borough of Slatington, and parts of Northampton County, consisting of the townships of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh and Moore (part, Beersville and Klecknersville districts) and the boroughs of Bath, North Catasauqua, Northampton and Walnutport, and represents 66,148 residents.
