Prothonotary report

Prothonotary Kayla M. Semmel released the statistical report of activities for her office for the months of August and September.

There were 681 cases started in August with the following breakdown: Civil actions, 19; custody, 16; DJ appeal, 10; divorce, 18; ejectment, 3; license appeal, 2; mortgage foreclosures, 9; name change, 3; Partition, 1; protection from abuse, 44; quiet title, 1; CT appointment, 3; judgments, 519; Stip/waiv liens, 6; custody modifications, 5; miscellaneous, 3; paternity, 1; protection of victims of sexual violence or intimidation, 4; and writs, 14.

A total of 49 passport applications were processed in August. In addition, a total of 28 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 42 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $31,874.61; prothonotary fees, $24,723.35; custody/divorce fees, $2,056.25; data processing fees, $4,779.40; interest income, $16.22; and stenographer fess, $299.50.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $3,300, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $4,013.13; and automation fund $1,390, which money collected for future automation and improvements to the office.

Sales tax money turned over to the state for tax on passport photos, $35.70.

There were 399 cases started in September with the following breakdown: civil actions, 35; custody, 9; DJ appeal, 6; divorce, 19; mortgage foreclosures, 17; protection from abuse, 41; quiet title, 1; replevin, 1; judgments, 240; zoning appeal, 1; mental health, 1; stip/waiv liens, 4; custody modifications, 10; protection of victims of sexual violence or intimidation, 5; and writs, 9.

A total of 31 passport applications were processed in September. In addition, a total of 16 renewal applicants sought assistance from the office; and 41 photos were taken. Passports are by appointment and pictures can now be taken in the office.

Total income generated was $32,160.36; prothonotary fees, $25,784.72; data processing fees, $4,952.94; interest income, $42.70; and stenographer fess, $1,380.

In addition to the above fees, the office remitted to the county for the remote access fund for remote access fees of $1,200, remitted to the state department of revenue (fees collected on new cases) $4,340.56; and automation fund $1,467.59, which money collected for future automation and improvements to the office.
