Carbon County court - guilty pleas

A Lehighton man admitted to an assault charge on Thursday in Carbon County court.

He was one of four defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.Lehighton incidentJerry Kershner, 55, pleaded to one count of simple assault.He admitted assaulting a man in the 300 block ofSouth Second Street in Lehighton. Kershner said he struck the victim in the face once in a dispute over rent for his apartment. Police said the victim suffered a broken nose and slight concussion in the incident.Serfass placed Kershner on probation for 18 months and ordered he render 75 hours of community service and have no contact with the victim.Other pleasKathleen Barbara Long, 47, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of criminal mischief for an incident on May 30.Palmerton police responded tothe 500 block of Mauch Chunk Road for a reported dispute. On scene officers learned that Long andthe victim had a dispute over a parking space in front of Long's residence. Long admitted causing damages to the victim's vehicle, including flattening a tire and other damages.The victim agreed to the plea agreement in which a charge of persistent disorderly conduct was dropped in exchange for Long paying the victim $900 at the preliminary hearing in the case toward the damages to the vehicle.Serfass placed her on probation for 24 months and ordered she pay the remaining restitution of $853.07, have no contact with the victim, get a drug and alcohol evaluation, stay off the victim's property and render 100 hours of community service.Mason Andrew Mahoney, 22, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of criminal mischief.He was arrested on April 15 for entering the home of his fatherin Penn Forest Township without permission and causing damages in the entrance.Mahoney is currently an inmate in the Monroe County prison serving a probation violation sentence.Serfass placed him on probation for a year and ordered him to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.The term is consecutive to the Monroe sentence.Crystal Ann Weber, 36, of Philadelphia, and formerly of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of retail theft.She was arrested by state police at Lehighton for an incident at the Shell Station along Route 903 in Jim Thorpe on July 5. She took an item valued at $11.60.Because of prior arrests for retail theft, the charge is graded a felony three.Sentencing was deferred because Weber has a pending parole violation matter.The three sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
