The Lehighton Downtown Partnership has donated funds from this month’s Rocktoberfest to Blended Bakery and their Beards for Breasts campaign, and Perfect Balance Boutique, to help someone who cannot afford products.
Through a combination of the community’s support and the partnership’s efforts, $700 was raised at this year’s RockToberfest, according to Bambi Elsasser, Lehighton Main Street Manager for the Lehighton Downtown Partnership.
Elsasser said the funds were collected through donation buckets, the candy wheel, dime pitch, pumpkin painting and scarecrow building, and the amount split between the two businesses to support their causes.
“Beards for Breasts raise funds that stay in our area for those affected by breast cancer through the Cancer Support Community of the Greater Lehigh Valley,” Elsasser said. “Christi and Brandy from Blended Bakery, along with Meghan, a friend of Christi’s, agreed to shave their heads if they could raise $10,000.
“Perfect Balance Boutique is a unique boutique offering services and product to those suffering from effects of cancer. Not everyone has insurance, and not all products are covered by insurance.”
Elsasser said “We are so happy we could donate to both very important causes.”
The sixth annual Rocktoberfest was held earlier this month in Lehighton’s Lower Park and on North and South streets.
Hosted by the partnership, the two-day event supports Cancer Awareness and the community.
It included entertainment, a family-fun activities include games, music, food, vendors, scarecrow making, pumpkin painting, free games, a candy wheel and a dime pitch.
There were also house-drawn carriage rides, as well as a huge basket raffle held under the big tent to support the Lehighton Fire Department.
The Pharoahs Car Club also hosted its annual car show.
