Monroe man charged with attempted homicide after domestic dispute

A Long Pond man is facing attempted homicide charges after police said he threatened to kill a woman during a domestic dispute and after a standoff with police Thursday night.

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said Mack Antonoff, 62, is charged with criminal attempt to commit homicide, aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment as a result of an incident that took place at 5:56 p.m. at 446 Cedar Drive in Long Pond. Regional Police were assisted in handing the incident by the Monroe County sheriff’s and district attorney’s office.

Police said they were dispatched to the residence for a report of a knife being involved in a domestic dispute. They said a woman reported Antonoff came after her with the weapon and attempted to stab her several times. Police said she sustained minor injuries from the knife attack and was able to get out of the home.

Prior to leaving the residence, police said, Antonoff told the victim he would ambush police with a sniper rifle. After he left the residence with a gun, police said a neighbor called to say Antonoff was lying in the woods with something in his hands.

The department’s SWAT team was activated and various roads around the home were shut down. Police also learned an elderly woman was still within the residence.

Police said Antonoff was observed going back into the residence. They said at one point, he came out of the home, onto the porch, and fired multiple volleys from a handgun.

Police said negotiators were able to make contact with the elderly woman and instructed her to go to the front door. Members of the SWAT team got her out safely.

Police said they instructed Antonoff to exit the home, but he was unresponsive to police requests. After several hours, SWAT team and a K-9 entered the home and took Antonoff into custody.

Police said he suffered a self-inflicted injury and was flown to a level 1 trauma center, where he is under guard by department personnel.
