Mike Sofranko, Jim Thorpe Borough mayor, sports a Palmerton Blue Bombers shirt during Thursday night’s council meeting, paying off a bet he lost to Palmerton Mayor Don Herrmann when Palmerton’s varsity football team beat Jim Thorpe 54-29 on Sept. 16.
Sofranko also promoted Palmerton during his monthly “mayor’s report,” encouraging residents to shop downtown and enjoy all the town has to offer.
“Mayor Herrmann and I are hoping to make this an annual tradition when the two teams play,” Sofranko said. “Much thanks to Palmerton High School as well and their students. Together, we collected a large amount of canned goods for the food pantries in both towns.”
